Admissions Requirements

IMPORTANT: On your application you must indicate your preference for ¨GMB - Genetics and Molecular Biology¨ to ensure correct selection.
Students interested in receiving a PhD in the field of Genetics and Molecular Biology (GMB) are encouraged to apply.
All applications are processed through The Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (GDBBS).
The information can be found at http://biomed.emory.edu/admissions/applicationinfo.cfm
Applicants to the GMB program should have strong undergraduate backgrounds in the physical, chemical, biological, or behavioral sciences. Four general criteria are used to evaluate applicants. These include GPA, GRE scores, research experience, and letters of recommendation. Over the last 5 years, accepted studentes have had better than a B+ average, GRE scores above the 75th percentile, and strong undergraduate or professional research experiences. Students must indicate that they are highly motivated for a career in biological or biomedical research.
Students who have strong qualifications in all but one of these predictors of graduate performance and who can provide evidence of a productive experience in laboratory or field science will also be considered for admission.
All applicants (including international applicants) must submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE). GRE scores must not be more than five years old. International applicants whose native language is not English must also complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Applicants who hold a Masters of Science or other advanced degrees are invited to apply. If the degree is in a related field, such students can be admitted in advanced standing, which will shorten the completion time for our PhD.
When applying, be sure to indicate your preference for the Genetics and Molecular Biology (GMB) training program on your application.

***In a pilot program to gauge the impact of application fees the Graduate Division is waiving the application fee for all applicants who apply for admission in Fall 2010.
