Calendar of important deadlines and dates for GMB students

1st year:
- Graduate School Orientation, all graduate students, mandatory. Usually on 4th Wednesday of August, the day before the first day of classes, at noon in Cox Hall.
- 4th Thursday of August: Registration and payment of student fees at Student Financial Services in the Boisfeuillet Jones Center.
- 4th Friday of August: start of classes.
- GMB Orientation and Welcoming Reception, mandatory. Usually on Thursday or Friday following Grad School orientation.
2nd year:
- Qualifying (comprehensive) exams: Written exam are in mid-January, 1 or 2 days before the first day of classes, which is usually on the 3rd Thursday. Oral exams are usually scheduled in the second week of March during Spring Break.
- By end of June, all 2nd year students need to have their Thesis Committee members selected and handed in the appropriate form to the DGS.
3rd year:
- First Thesis Committee meeting should take place between beginning of September to early November. Students need to prepare an approximately 5 page "thesis proposal". After the meeting, the proposal and signed committee meeting form need to be handed to the DGS.
- In the Spring semester of the 3rd year, student will give their first GMB seminar (IBS 546r), followed by their second Thesis Committee meeting.
