How Satellite Data Helps Predict Disease Outbreaks
Dr. Uriel Dan Kitron, faculty member in Population Biology, Ecology and Evolution, was mentioned in Financial Times for his work with satellite data for disease monitoring.
Although disease monitoring is not the primary role of any satellite, more than a dozen US and European missions generate remote sensing data suitable for pathogen prediction, with several more due to launch before 2020. High-quality data are becoming more readily available, says Dr. Kitron.
