Herbs against germs

Cassandra Quave combats antibiotic-resistant bacteria with ancient plant recipes. Several drug candidates have already found the American ethnobotanist.

This story could tell how a girl combines her love of nature with the interest in ancient herbal medicines and later makes her profession.

Dr. Cassandra Quave is curator of the Emory University herbarium and assistant professor of dermatology and human health at Emory University, where she leads antibiotic drug discovery research initiatives and teaches undergraduate courses on medicinal plants, food and health. She is also a faculty member in the MMG and MSP programs.
